    Hey Jay, just came across this video. I myself always run around 500 +/- on all contests, I have always done this and like you said its really hard on your ears at the higher pitch, I can set for an 8 hour shift with no problems when running multi op contests, problem here at my QTH is I'm limited on good antennas and only 100 watts. Hope to catch you soon in another contest or if you just want to rag chew I like to hang around 7028.00. 73 talk with you soon. Mike W9RNY

    Don't abandon the straight key at 16 WPM, keep going! With a straight key you feel the code like a drum beat. See if you can stick with the straight key to 20 WPM. In the United Kingdom operators sent 25, 28, 30, and even 35 WPM on a straight key but most were sloppy at 35, but a very few were precise at that speed. I abandoned the straight key when I could send 23 WPM and bought myself a Vibroplex Champion for $6.00. Which I used until I bought a Deluxe Original with a carrying case which I carried with me when I went to sea as a radio officer. Every ship had at least two, usually three straight keys terminated with 1/4 inch plugs. I just connected the Vibroplex to the key jack on the transmitter key panel.

    • @JayN4GO
      @JayN4GO 12 дней назад

      @@djringjr I enjoy the flameproof sk. I think I should try a nicer sk like the junker or perhaps one of the begalis. No doubt that the straight key helped me form the fundamentals of Morse code.

    @nctplarry 18 дней назад

    Very good job, Jay!! WAE is one of my most favorite contests. And, I was happy to see you get the hang of QTC sending when you work the HG3N station! Yeah, while it might SEEM to be a slower contest, just notice that each QTC you send the EU station, it adds to your score. Notice the "SQTC" line in your score box. So, keep racking up those EU contacts and sending those QTCs. Keep it up, brother! And, your speed is quite good, too. Aren't those EU ops unreal with how well they copy those QTC exchanges? Seems like they all can copy 100 wpm. Ha! I notice you do like I do...enter the other station's QSO number, even if he didn't come back to your call. So, instead of having to backspace and type the new number, just press CTRL-U in N1MM. Ctrl+U - Increase the number in the exchange field by 1. Another tip regarding sending QTCs (this is from N1MM documentation). This tip has been extremely useful to me, especially when signals are weak or QRN is a problem like on low bands, etc. "If he asks for a repeat of only part of the QTC, you can right-click on one of the three parts to re-send it, or you can press the 1, 2 or 3 keys to re-send just the time, call sign or serial number respectively." That way, you don't have to send the entire exchange...and both you and the EU stn are happier to move quickly through your list. I've watched several of your videos and will watch more. Keep recording and posting! 73 de Larry Anderson NN5O • Pres, Deep Dixie Contest Club • Tupelo, MS
